China Warehouse Consultant

Background:

Shipwire is a software and fulfillment company providing order management software that is pre-integrated with over 50 of the most popular online shopping carts. Shipwire’s platform also includes access to Shipwire managed physical warehouses in five (5) key global locations. Warehouse distribution facilities are currently in Los Angeles, Chicago, Vancouver BC, Toronto, and London.

Shipwire is looking to expand their global footprint by adding another warehouse in the China / Hong Kong region “China Warehouse”.

Shipwire’s China warehouse is expected to provide fulfillment services for online sales orders. 60% to 70% of the entire order volume is expected to small parcel shipments primarily to the Asia region (Japan, Korea China, Singapore and Australia) but a significant volume of small parcel shipments will be shipped to other global destinations.

The remaining order volume is expected to be: Traditional consolidation and forwarding services for bulk Purchase Orders being shipped to other Shipwire warehouses, to other distributers and brick and mortar retailers. These orders will ship via tradition air freight, LCL and FCL ocean freight. Consolidated small parcel shipments: for specific lanes, Shipwire will pick and pack and label shipments as if they shipped from another of their facilities, consolidate them into a single air freight shipment to be cross-docked on arrival for final delivery

Statement of work:

Partner search: Consultant will be expected to find possible 3PL partners with existing facilities, systems and standard operating procedures that will support the Shipwire business. Consultant will be expected to complete site visits, evaluate their systems capabilities, facility management team, and ability to flex available space to meet Shipwire’s growth.
Contract negotiation: Consultant will be expected to take the lead on the contract negotiation, providing local insight on how to provide the value for their contacted service.
Carrier Selection: Consultant will be expected to assist in selecting small parcel and forwarding partner(s), helping to negotiate rates as well as develop SOP for services that cannot be completely automated.
Warehouse Integration: Consultant will manage an integration project plan and assist in testing and rollout. This includes, warehouse integration to Shipwire’s systems, to small parcel carriers, and freight forwarders.
Communication: Consultant will be primary face of Shipwire and is expected to be fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
Post Rollout: Consultant will be expected to help find and select a local customer service and warehouse relationship supervisor (fluent in all three languages)

Job Description
We are looking for a director of finance, to be responsible for the following activities:

BUSINESS ANALYSIS – Enhance business plans for CEO. Analyze operations and maximize cash flow for a variety of projected products. Model customer and vendor data to identify business trends and opportunities. Consider cross-border implications such as to VAT, GST, and currency conversion. Note that all products are related to warehousing and shipping.
COST MANAGEMENT – Work with warehouse operations, engineering, and legal, to manage vendor costs. This includes negotiating with vendors, creating and maintaining processes for measuring vendor efficiency, and monitoring costs versus revenues. Work with engineering to add new features to support cost management.
PRICING MANAGEMENT – Work with product management to manage customer pricing.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT – Create and manage financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, payroll, tax planning, equity plans, strategic business planning and risk management. Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable systems. Review payroll tax returns, sales tax returns, and city business licenses, as needed.
OFFICE MANAGEMENT – Survey, negotiate and maintain facilities and equipment, as needed. Negotiate and obtain insurance, as needed. Take ownership of existing human resource operating procedures, including interview process, background checks, benefits package, ongoing management review process, and signage. We require industry-standard procedures, and competitive benefits, while minimizing cash outlay.

Qualifications: Five years of experience in financial accounting
