Marketing Inserts

Shipwire makes it easy to make the most out of every customer order by allowing you to “insert” marketing collateral into any shipment. Upon opening their shipment, your customers will receive both the products they ordered and any promotional collateral you chose to include, such as:

  • Featured or Seasonal Products
  • Special Sale Items
  • Discount Codes for Repeat Customers
  • About Us Company Information
  • Announcements on New Features, Products, Services, etc.

Types of inserts include items such as a post cards, brochures, stickers or promotional CDs or DVDs

General Information

  • All Shipwire warehouses can handle inserts (current pricing plans).
  • Inserts are priced at 1/10 of an item. The higher your volume commitment, the better the price.
  • Inserts must be smaller than 8.5”³ x 11.5”³ x .1”³ and cannot weigh more than .2 lbs (U.S. pounds).  Larger items should be defined as a regular pick/pack SKU.
  • Inserts are a type of SKU (see Add Products for info) that are sent to the warehouse in a case. Each case should be labeled with a Product Identification Code and comply with standard Shipwire Case Labeling standards (one type of Insert SKU per case, no mixed inserts per case).
  • There is a limit of one insert per order.
  • Inserts must accompany a shipping product.

How do I setup my insert?

You create and manage inserts in the “Manage Products” part of your account. Log into your account and go to ‘Store->Manage Products’ interface. Select the tab called “Inserts”. After you define your Insert you will be asked to define the Case (i.e. box or carton) that will hold this type of insert.

How does Shipwire define an insert?

An insert is any object smaller than 8.5″ x 11.5″ x 0.1″ inches, and less than 0.2 lbs. Anything larger should be defined as a regular Pick/Pack SKU, subject to standard Pick/Pack pricing rates.

Why is my insert ID different from the Case ID? What about labels?

The case_ID is a separate SKU_ID than the insert inside the case. This way when you send the case to shipwire we can receive the case, store the case and still know how many individual items (in this case inserts) will be inside it for inventory purposes.

You only need to label the case with the case_ID. The individual inserts do not need an insert_ID on them; however, if you have that option feel free to do that to further limit confusion. For example in the bottom footer of a datasheet or on a promotional CD cover.

How will inserts be added an order for a single Lick & Stick SKU?

For Lick & Stick orders, Shipwire will add the insert into the pouch that contains the packing list. This is only available for pliable inserts SKUs (CD’s / DVD’s not included).

How can you designate which orders include which inserts?

When you create the insert SKU in the Add Products interface you will have the option to define when your insert should be included with an order.   You can choose to have your Shopping cart tell us when the insert should be including (assuming your Shopping Cart has that functionality). Alternatively you can choose to have your insert included in all orders, or to be more specific about the type of order it should be included it (e.g. include only on orders above a certain retail value, order quantity, and/or date periods).

What happens if I run out of a particular insert, will the order be held or back-ordered?

No. If no insert is available the order will ship normally without the insert included.

How many inserts can be included per order?

Only one insert can be included per order and priority will always be given to the insert specified by the shopping cart. In the event that more than one insert is specified for an order, priority will be given to the most recently created insert SKU.

How can I see the insert added to an order?

Inserts can be reviewed just like any other item in an order.

Can I dispose or ship out the case of inserts?

Yes, simply put in an order for shipment or ask support to dispose of the individual case SKU. If you opt for disposal, please remember that some of our warehouses are in jurisdictions with specific environmental disposal requirements.

Where is this found in my Shipwire account?

Log into your account. Go to “Store” -> “Add Products” and select the Insert product type.
