Sandy causes major flight delays at SFO

ABC News Channel 7, October 30th, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KGO) — Travelers are struggling, trying to figure out how to get home or to their next destination, now that Sandy has caused so many flights to be canceled. People have missed meetings. Others have missed plane connections to Europe because of the storm. The cancellation of flights left some passengers scrambling to find another way to get to the East Coast…

Not just passengers are impacted. Palo Alto-based Shipwire is one of the largest distribution companies for online retailers. Some shipments depend on air cargo. It also has a Pennsylvania warehouse in the storm zone.

“For every 24 hours that a facility is closed or there’s an impact from a service perspective due to weather or natural disaster ultimately means we’re going to have a 48 hour or even up to three days’ delay to recover from that,” Shipwire Global Operations Vice President Dan Weiss said.
